Topic of the Month: Bull Market

bullI don’t know much about the Stock Market, but I do know that if you get in on the ground floor of a commodity right before it takes off, and buy low, then you can make a lot of money after Amalgamated Widgets or some other hot new product takes off.

Well, I am offering you the chance to get in early with EngineeringDesignJobs.com, which, to extend the stock market analogy a bit more, is a hot commodity in the process of taking off.

I know, you’re skeptical. I spend my days listening to engineering & construction professionals say that job boards are ineffective. I have heard clients and candidates say that job boards are too cluttered, that they can’t match up the qualified professionals with the hiring authority who is interested in that person’s talents and desire.

But remember, just because one stock fails doesn’t mean the market is poor or that there isn’t a much better commodity to invest in. When I press those clients or candidates I speak to about the failures they’ve witnessed on job boards, invariably they confess that they money or time they wasted and the dead ends they encountered were attributable to the giant job-boards that try to be all things to all people.

If you enter the monstrous world of these mega-job boards and list your title as, for example, “project manager,” you are, indeed, one grain of wheat being thrown in with tons of chaff. You are likely to get thrown in with any resume that features the words “project” and “manager”; a restaurant manager and a guy who was a service superintendent for a housing project might come up before your name does when a potential new employer is searching for someone to design a hospital or hotel.

In other words, now’s the time to sell on those giant job boards that discriminate so poorly between what you do and the thousands of job seekers whose talents and experience are unrelated to your endeavors. An October 2007 Wall Street Journal article (PDF, 142k) highlighted the stagnation that has struck the biggest job boards; 360i Chief Executive Bryan Weiner speaks for many who are frustrated at the results the big boards give them: “You get a fair amount of response, but not the quality.”

You know your work is of the highest quality, but you don’t know how to make sure it gets recognized by a potential employer.

Emily Steel goes on to write, in her Wall Street Journal article, that as the giant, generic job boards struggle, “the hottest names in online recruitment are increasingly specialized job sites. That poses a threat to the growth prospects of the broad-based online job boards and their newspaper partners.”

We are exactly such a specialized job site.
We are not all things to all people.
We are EngineeringDesignJobs.com.
We specialize in your business, in engineering. That’s all we do. We work to get your name in front of the best companies in the industry.

As I said, I don’t know much about the Stock Market. But I know one rule is that you must diversify your portfolio. Well, to finish with one more analogy, we at EngineeringDesignJobs.com refuse to diversify. Your career is our only stock in trade. All our capital is tied up in your success.

We invest in you, so you will invest in us.

Testify!

testifyKristen Ripmaster writes this month about the growing relevance and usefulness of specialty web boards such as EngineeringDesignJobs.com. And that is not without merit: Kristen knows her stuff and works hard to advance our name and efforts to serve professionals like you and the engineering & construction industry.

Further, she draws a legitimate series of differences between the huge web boards and our niche board that serves only your industry.

But beyond what an employee of EngineeringDesignJobs.com has to say, here are four testimonials from industry leaders and executives, men and women who turned to EngineeringDesignJobs.com when they had important positions to fill at their companies, positions that can advance the career of a builder like you. These four have all used the services we offer at EngineeringDesignJobs.com and sent us these statements which declare their satisfaction with how we are were able to address significant and time sensitive needs they faced.

Read these, please, and please consider turning to EngineeringDesignJobs.com the next time you want the right place to create a profile of yourself and register your resume.

"I have found excellent candidates on your job board. Additionally, the support I receive from my account rep is phenomenal. The package we have and the exceptional support make your website very efficient and cost-effective."
~ Black & Veatch Corporation ~

"Since the position we posted was so specific, it was difficult to target qualified candidates. We did receive several qualified candidates through our ad on your website. I would recommend the website to other engineering and construction companies and will continue to use the site for future construction-related postings."
~ Ecology & Environment

"Your website is a great tool for employers! It's easy to navigate and very user-friendly! I can't say enough about our Account Executive and the valuable assistance she provides us!"
~ Olmstead & Associates ~

"For months our company has been engaged in trying to locate a Senior Estimator. We have tried more than six different job boards with little to no success. After posting our job description on your website, we instantly started receiving qualified applicants. Once we began interviewing the candidates, we were pleasantly surprised with the professionalism that each candidate expressed during the interview process. In the future we plan to utilize your service for all our recruitment needs."
