Bestseller
I know this fellow, a writer. Off and on, his whole life, he has been writing, editing and adding to his masterpiece, trying to get his work in front of just the right audience, waiting for his career to take off.
Finally, recently, he submitted a piece he had been working on, and of which he was very proud.
The work was succinct and to the point, yet told a very complete story of one man’s rise in the world. This main character was the writer himself, and the piece of writing offered brief but specific glimpses into the man’s life: his years in college, the various jobs he’d held, what he’d learned out in the working world, even some other characters who’d been guiding lights in his life and who could talk about this protagonist with eloquence and pride.
The writer passed the work to me, and I happened to be in a position to get it in front of the exact audience he was hoping to appeal to. The work was so concrete and forceful that, in fact, readers came to me to request the chance to see this eloquent document.
It wasn’t a self-help book, but it definitely suggested how the readers could improve themselves and their companies.
It wasn’t a get-rich-quick scheme, but it definitely offered specific means by which the writer could make the readers more money.
It certainly wasn’t an autobiography or fiction, but the reader could piece together the main character’s life and noble efforts to serve the world in which he lived and worked.
After finishing the writer’s work, many readers rushed to speak to the writer: can you come appear before us, and tell us more? We love your ideas, admire your work ethic; we want you to work for us, and help us get better at what we do.
I imagine by now you are asking two questions: “What is this amazing piece of writing? And how can I read it?”
This piece of writing is your resume. It is a succinct and important document that, in effect, gets updated every year, every time you build another project that saves money and makes money, every time your work solves problems and saves time. Your resume is a wonderful document: a page or two that presents your life in a noble and vital profession, displays your educational achievements, charts your growth as a professional, and hints at the heights you have yet to reach.
So, hone that resume down until it’s a lean, quick read, full of concrete achievements that a reader can swallow in a few minutes but digest for hours. One that convinces the audience that they need to meet you, maybe even invite you over for a face-to-face interview.
Then let EngineeringDesignJobs.com serve as your agent, publicist, and publisher. Let us be the best seller of your bestseller.

Finding Your Niche
Sure, we’re biased, but we believe that EngineeringDesignJobs.com is one of the best sources you have at your disposal for advancing your career in engineering or construction. Read on, and you might agree.
On our website, you can review, typically, about 2000 jobs ranging from President and CEO to estimator to project manager to superintendent to project engineer. Roughly 60% of the Top 100 construction and engineering companies post their greatest need positions on our website, and 20 or so the top design firms regularly do the same. If you are seeking a new challenge or if you simply like to stay abreast of trends in the business, and who is doing what, we’re a great site to visit.
Further, 26,000 candidates – a number that is growing rapidly - list their resume with us and trust us to serve as a clearinghouse for interest in and offers for their talents.
You may be thinking, “Well, Monster and CareerBuilder have numbers that far surpass those figures.” You’re right. But our efforts are aimed specifically at engineering and construction, and we know engineering and construction. As a candidate, you won’t disappear into a morass of numbers and resumes with us, and the builders who use our services to seek a top candidate know that our efforts are tailored specifically to their business.
Time magazine stated that search “time is better spent zeroing in on niche boards,” and US News and World Report echoes that, stating that niche boards are “more focused.”
We encourage you to investigate our website and see if you agree.
Protect Yourself Online
EngineeringDesignJobs.com strives to provide you with the widest range of job opportunities in the engineering and construction industries available online. Unfortunately, fraudulent job listings might appear from time to time. Posting fraudulent jobs violates our Terms of Service and might be a violation of federal or state law.
To protect yourself from fraud, we encourage you to:
- Make informed decisions before sharing your Social Security Number with a potential employer. Most employers will not ask for personal information until you arrive at their offices for an interview and are given a formal job application, so be wary if you are asked to give your Social Security Number by phone, email, or online.
- If you have doubts about a company's legitimacy, research the company using web sites operated by the Better Business Bureau and the United States Federal Trade Commission.
- Refrain from providing credit card or bank account numbers or engaging in any financial transactions over the phone or online with a potential employer/recruiter.
- Withhold offering personal information (such as marital status, age, height, weight). Such questions might violate federal hiring standards, and job seekers are not obligated to answer them.
