VDOT’s Fredericksburg District has exciting an opportunity available in its Traffic Engineering Department. We are seeking qualified candidates to fill an Electronics Manager – Intelligent Traffic Systems vacancy. This position oversees the installation and maintenance of Traffic Signals and ITS devices to include network, communications, equipment specifications development, procurement, testing, changeable message signs, highway advisory radio, CCTV cameras, traffic detectors, etc. They will lead a team of contracted and state force technicians to diagnose and repair devices to support District Operations and TOCs.
Required skills for job & position:
• Knowledge of mathematics as applies to transportation studies
• Ability to analyze various data and draw logical conclusions
• Knowledge of the design of computer hardware and software systems, telecommunications, and network configurations
• Knowledge of basic principles and practices of data collection and transportation survey procedures
• Ability to apply engineering principles and practices to a variety of engineering projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of engineering processes and system analysis
• Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments and competing priorities
• Thorough knowledge of computer and communication technologies associated with transportation systems
• Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations and VDOT policies, procedures, and standards related to electrical and electronic devices, maintenance, troubleshooting and operations
• Demonstrated ability to apply systems engineering technical principles and practices to a variety of complex projects
• Ability to supervise staff and programs
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information orally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, problem solving and effective decision making
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to manage electronic and information technology systems projects
Minimum Qualifications
• Valid driver's license
• Experience applying federal and state regulations related to electrical and electronic devices, maintenance, troubleshooting and operations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Experience in the areas of electrical and electronic systems analysis and maintenance
• Knowledge of the design of computer hardware and software systems, telecommunications and network configurations
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information orally and in writing
• Experience maintaining detailed and accurate records
• Experience supervising staff and programs to include the ability to plan, coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments and competing priorities
Additional Considerations
• IMSA level II Traffic Signal Technician or related field experience
• Project management experience with electronic or information technology systems
• Experience with traffic management systems. Supervisory experience involving oversight of technical work groups
• Experience with ITS and Systems Management maintenance and operations to include computer and communication technologies associated with transportation systems
• A combination of training, experience or education in Traffic Signal Technology, Traffic Engineering, Electronics or related field desired
