Our Construction Division is seeking an Engineer Specification to join our team. The selected candidate will be responsible for:
Project Specifications - Formatting electronically and distributing project specifications, notes or documents developed for individual maintenance and construction projects. Reviewing written contract specifications for inclusion in contracts.
Maintain and Develop Specifications - Developing and maintaining critical engineering elements for statewide maintenance and construction specifications that govern and regulate activity and incorporation of materials and services during construction. Writing contract specifications and documenting project specific notes detailing the engineering expectation unique to the specific maintenance and construction project.
Policies and Procedures - Researching and analyzing engineering design standards, products, construction methods and procedures, and governmental legislation, regulations, policy, and procedures.
Special Assignments - Managing special program initiatives and projects as assigned. Serving and representing VDOT or assigned program area on various committees and work groups.
Communication - Establishing an effective line of communication between VDOT, contractors, government agencies and the public. Investigating issues and resolving complaints.
Minimum Qualifications
• Extensive oral and written communication experience with multi-discipline engineering and legal experts.
• Extensive experience in the design, construction, inspection, or maintenance of civil engineering projects.
• Extensive experience with planning and specification development, reading, interpretation, and application of construction and maintenance engineering principles, practices and procedures.
• Extensive experience in contract administration and management, value engineering, project constructability reviews, and maintenance program management.

VDOT is an emergency operation agency. Positions physically working within Central Office locations may be designated upon request and coordination among the respective District Engineer or Administrator and Chief. Assignments are updated annually. Not all designated employees are provided an emergency operations assignment.
Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth telework policy.
