Job Description:
An Excavator Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery to perform tasks such as digging, grading, trenching, and moving earth or materials on construction sites.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for safe and technically proficient operation of equipment assigned.
- Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures including reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value – Safety, first in everything we do.
- Complete equipment condition reports, as well as a daily checklist of work to be done on your equipment and provide to the Project Superintendent daily through the Middlesex Application.
- Cleaning the machines daily. This includes sweeping the cabs and removing trash daily, and lubricating doors and windows bi-weekly.
- Understand and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures. Know where all utilities within the work zone are located.
- Be responsible for your own safety as well as those working in the area.
- Inform your Superintendent or Foreman daily of your equipment fuel status so the fuel truck can be scheduled if needed for the next morning.
- Make a note on your equipment report and let your Superintendent know if you need any supplies, i.e.: grease, oil, rags, cleaning supplies, or if the machine needs to be steam cleaned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/ GED Certificate
- 3-5 years Operator Experience in Heavy/Civil Construction
- OSHA 10 Certified
- Valid Driver License
Necessary Attributes:
- Must possess the ability to adapt to different personalities and management styles
- Commitment to safety, quality, and integrity oriented with strong professional work ethics
- Identify and discuss all safety interlocks, alarms and shutdowns on your machine
- Preform a beginning and end of shift equipment inspection
- Demonstrate and discuss the operation of the Bucket Quick Disconnect System
- Locate all grease points and discuss operation of the auto greasing system if applicable
- Demonstrate the ability to pull level grades.
- Demonstrate the ability to correctly and safely excavate a trench.
- Ability to control, position, and load trucks.
- Capable to lift and set heavy loads.
- Demonstrate the ability to excavate to grade using GPS.
- Demonstrate the ability to excavate to grade using grade stakes.
- Demonstrate the ability to load and unload an excavator from transport truck.
- Use of lifting devices; cables, chains, four ways, straps, etc.
- How to lift, set, and home: a) Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) b) C-900 Pipe c) RCP/ERCP d) CMP e) SDR f) ADS.
- Demonstrate the ability to lift and set: a) Head Walls b) Structures (bases, tops.)
