Job Duties
This is a wage position and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in the twelve month period beginning May 1, through April 30. No state benefits are provided.
VDOT's Lynchburg District Cumberland Area Headquarters is seeking a Part Time Laborer/Flagger to perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion. As the qualified candidate, you will have the following core responsibilities:
Position will flag traffic, assist in setting up work zones, perform manual labor on roadway maintenance work crews, and drive pick-ups and one-ton trucks. Job safety and the use of personal protective equipment are of the utmost importance. Positions may perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
Positions are designated as essential, and as such, may be required to work outside normal hours on nights, weekends and holidays during emergency operations. Additional vacancies may be filled from this applicant pool within 90 days of the closing date in the Farmville Residency.

Ability to work in diverse conditions including exposure to weather outdoors in all seasons. Ability to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. References, work history, and DMV records will be verified. Requires approved safety shoes. Fingerprint-based criminal history records check required. Will be required to work outside normal hours in emergencies and inclement weather. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. H1B VISA Sponsorship is not available.
